Ampersand are delighted to have won two coveted awards at the NOffLA Gold Star Irish Wine Awards 2015/16 ceremony held in The Morrison Hotel on the 5th of October.
Meerestin Chenin Pinot Grigio 2014, from South Africa’s Western Cape took the Gold star for best New World white under €10 and was declared as a “wine with personality, presence and complexity – fresh peaches and cream bottled!” by the judging panel.
Chivite Gran Feudo Rosé, from the Navarra region in Spain won the Gold star for best Rosé wine. The judges praised its intense strawberry and fruit aromas, proclaiming it ‘no wimpish Rosé, packed with fragrance and fruit – a good match with spicy food or with friends’.
Nearly 600 wines were tasted blind in mid-August by a group of wine experts / WSET diploma holders from within the membership of NOffLA. The experienced palates of Mary Dowey and Leslie Williams were then engaged to separate the top three wines in each category into Gold, Silver & Bronze winners. Ampersand taking two golds at the Irish Wine Show “Star Awards” is testament to the quality of our wine portfolio and wine selection process. Ampersand won the titles of "best in class" for these two categories from all the wines that were submitted this year and have taken this title on multiple occasions over the years. We will continue to add quality wines and award winners each year to our expanding portfolio .
Ampersand will be supporting the award winning wines with a marketing package offering a special promotion and a tailored Point of Sale suite to highlight the awards to consumers in-store. The wines will also have specially marked NOffLA labels, and in the pre-Christmas period will be promoted as ideal gifts in a variety of special gift packs across the NOffLA member stores.
